romney and ryan support preserving tax cuts for all the capital gains and carried interest. everything else, my friend, your mortgage interest tax deduction and everything else is on table. >> okay. if that was the high point of joe biden talking about the economy last night we have a long way to go. americans still don't believe the stimulus worked. we're dealing with the weak economy. that's reality to people. >> but we also know , jonathan, let me jump in here. congressman ryan, they heard that he asked for stimulus money. are democrats now fired up? we were in kentucky live. we talked to people all day, talked to people this morning. i found it intriguing that people have been criticizing joe biden. we clearly know what his mission was. i even said we should play the music from "mission: impossible" and show his face. his commission was clear, he opened the envelope, he read it, it get get 'em and he did. obviously conservatives would not like that tone, not like that congressman ryan was interrupted, i believe they said like 17 times. who's counting. the bottom line, david, was it

governor romney and congressman ryan, it's congressman ryan who has specifics. he has an actual budget that vice president biden and reporters, quite frankly, can point to to say, in your budget, house budget committee chairman, you propose this, you propose that. where are you now? and the bind that congressman ryan is in, he's not the top of the ticket. governor romney is and governor romney said famously after they were chosen, paul ryan has his plan but i'm the candidate. i have my own plan. paul ryan is going to have to figure out how he can talk about what he believes and not run afoul of wherever governor romney might be on any of these budgetary issues, and especially medicare. >> it could be very interesting and very important given where we are at this stage, 29 days out. jonathan and margie omera, thank you for your time tonight. >> thank you. >>> a new group intimidating voters at the poll. into plus, the folks at snl brought humor but there's a serious point to be made. that's ahead. you this, when paul ryan is elected as vice president and i'm elected president -- >> now, mr. romney made those claims under a banner that says protect and strengthen medicare. did he forget that he signed on to the plan that would kill medicare as we know it? you know the one his running mate created. so this is the great mitt migration to the middle, the move from severely conservative to just severely brazen. the question is, can this new mitt move past the smell test? joining me now is congresswoman january kakowski and michelle cottle, correspondent for "the daily beast ". thank you both for joining me tonight. >> thank you. >> congresswoman, let me go to you first. newt gingrich admits governor romney has changed. how will he answer this in the next 29 days? >> well, we have to double down and demand the truth and who do you trust becomes the real question now but you can't going from saying we shouldn't hire more teachers to saying, i love teachers. we need more. you can't say you're against the dodd/frank bill and then say, oh, yes, wall street needs regulation. and you can't

for mitt romney and paul ryan. >> i don't think they're politicizing it. i'm not saying that because folks expect me to say that. i think will are questions about the time clock here, the unfolding of events. i appreciate the view that yes, it's been brief, but why? the first assassination of an ambassador -- u.s. ambassador, in close to 40 years. going unscathed. and to have all this bubble at this moment, i think the congress needs to get up to speed. the white house needs to be more forthcoming. the white house has created this store by the way they handled it coming out it have box. i give you the too many capsule and when the government spoke on it. but the reality is what they said initially and the facts have not lined up. they need to make it less of a story. to make it less politicized, and certainly the romney team rightly is talking about this. it's amazing tht front and center. >> to that same end, if what republicans are saying is true that the obama officials were trickling out the bad news then respect they politicizing the story as well? >> this is a ridiculous story. i lik

think we'll hear lots about the future. >> speaking of details, mitt romney and paul ryan are pressed for their plans. specifically the 20% across the board tax cut. why are they being so vague and will governor romney get specific at this debate? >> you know, it's funny. it cuts both ways. i think the reason they're not going specific is because they don't want to be attacked. they put the romney and ryan ticket on the defense. but i've heerd governor romney say this. he says i want to work in a bipartisan way. i want to work with democrats on capitol hill. i want to do what george w. bush did with no child left behind. that's to allow the congress -- that is to allow the legislative branch to be a part of the process. and thus in the process create or draft a piece of legislation that we can all work with. so i think it's a combination of both answers, alex. >> president obama had tough reviews following the first debate. what do you think is the greatest challenge in round two? >> the white house said to make adjustments. i think it's to make the adjustments without overcorrecting

't been specific on the deductions. he did not directly challenge mitt romney, and one of the things looking forward this week interesting to see is whether joe biden is able to turn to paul ryan in that way and say, your math doesn't add up. give me one specific deduction. in some ways i think with joe biden and paul ryan it's going to be an even more damaging conversation if ryan has to obviscate and come up with specifics because he's the numbers guy. >> he's going to be prepared. we'll be prepared. >> he doesn't have enough time it to answer the question, but going back to the theme of the day, what matters, the economy always matters. ever since the cold war it's been about the economy with the possible exception of '04, right? we're in the war of terrorism. >> even in '04 the exit polls showed that even though it was a foreign policy election, it was still about the economy. >> it's always about the economy. foreign policy is at best second or third most important. once again this foreign policy forray into mitt romney it may be a couple days lost. he's not talking about the ec
